By Philip Van der Vossen (@PVanderVossen) on August 24th, 2012

Hopefully you’ve recovered from last weekend’s National Rum Day, because this Saturday August 25th is National Whiskey Sour Day! The oldest historical mention of a whiskey sour prepared in the world comes from a newspaper published in Wisconsin in 1870. The traditional whiskey sour is a mixed drink containing whiskey (often Bourbon), lemon juice, sugar, and optionally, a dash of egg white to make it a Boston Sour. It is shaken and served either straight or over ice. The traditional garnish is half an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
